Mafia: The Old Country is a rich and action-packed story that takes you all the way back to the early 1900s in Sicily, Italy. You play as Enzo Favara, who, without giving too much away, is taken in by the Torrisi family and learns to live and survive the origins of the Sicilian Mafia. If you have played the previous Mafia titles, you may recognize the town of San Celeste, which was previously mentioned in Mafia II. As Enzo is introduced to the mafia life, he will learn to survive knife fights, stealth missions, and master firearms with some harsh recoil. This game also includes a lot of unique movements as you ride horses, maneuver around breakable items while sneaking around, and even the footwork required during intense knife fights. Timing plays a major role in this game when it comes to combat, especially during knife fights that incorporate dodges, parries, and several attack styles.

When it comes to sneaking and stealth missions, you will quickly learn to use your instinct and steady cover, which is a similar mechanic to Gears of War for those familiar, to position yourself perfectly for a silent takedown. I would recommend always aiming for a silent takedown because a heavy firefight will not be easy to handle. As you progress through the game and story, you will be introduced to upgrades and perks that can amplify your play style, so make sure to try different methods and builds until you find one that best suits your style.

Best Settings to Optimize Your Gameplay and Improve Accuracy

There are several settings that can impact your gameplay in Mafia: The Old Country, including aim assist, stealth stances, and driving settings. When it comes to gun combat, aim assist can be a major boost to your accuracy, such as activating the snap and follow setting once aim assist is turned on. This will allow you to track moving enemies with ease, and if it feels too easy, you can individually tweak the strength of the follow and pull when aiming. Persistent Center Dot is another aim assist setting that can be extremely helpful for any hip fire or quick draws, as it will place an aim marker on your screen if you have a weapon equipped, regardless of whether you are actively aiming or not. When it comes to stealth settings, you will want to keep your stance on “Persistent Crouch” to have a more natural flow to hiding behind cover. For those more familiar with the Mafia series, they also have a “Classic Mafia” setting that is similar to previous titles.

Other performance settings that can also impact gameplay include turning camera shake off to make sure your aim stays steady during explosions or intense moments. Adjusting your Field of View (FOV) is another way to ensure you are able to see more of the map or environment, which can be crucial during stealth missions. There are also several vehicle settings that can help make things easier to learn, or if you are looking for more immersion, they have a setting to turn things to manual, requiring you to shift gears yourself. Changing the camera angle setting to medium for Vehicle View, I found that it is the best of the 3 choices and helps a lot when making turns and keeping a visual on your target or enemy. For those who want nothing to do with any kind of driving or riding, you can actually skip it completely by turning on the Skip Drive & Ride setting, but where is the fun in doing that.
