FragPunk is a vibrant, fast-paced, shooter that was initially released in 2024 and now they have brought their exciting title to PlayStation and Xbox. FragPunk’s format consists of 5v5 round-based matches that pit unique Lancers (heroes) with different abilities, tools, and skills to see which team is on top. With any hero-based game the better you understand the various abilities and skills each hero has will allow you to counter or know when you need to call for help. This is a game where movement, speed, and precision will allow you to gain an edge against other Lancers and I have all the tips and recommended tips and controller settings you will need below.

Best Controller Settings for FragPunk on Console

Before I dive into any competitive shooter or FPS game I always make sure I spend time exploring game settings to make sure my controller settings are optimized for top performance. One of the most important settings I encourage everyone to test is your sensitivity, whether you like to get up close and personal or sniping from the backlines your thumbstick sensitivity settings can make a major impact on your aim and movement. Every game will have its approach to sensitivity settings and the default might put you at a disadvantage with a slower and less responsive setting. Especially in a competitive shooter like FragPunk being able to have a more snappy sensitivity setting could be the deciding factor in a firefight. I recommend spending time bumping up your thumbstick sensitivity incrementally until you feel your aim is fast enough to feel accurate and you will eventually adjust after a few matches. My next tip for optimizing your controller settings in FragPunk is to explore the controller layout page to get an understanding of what controls might not work for how you play. As someone who personally plays with a claw-style grip, I have learned that the default button layouts can work against me. In FragPunk you can fully customize or remap your entire controller which provides endless options but there are a few changes that could drastically improve your gameplay experience. Movement is a crucial aspect of any competitive game and nothing can be more deadly than getting out of position or finding yourself in an ambush. Changing the default sprint setting from toggle to hold will allow you to quickly sprint and feel more natural vs pushing down on your thumbstick repeatedly. Another button reassignment that will make a significant impact is your crouch, the default is currently B/Circle which can be an uncomfortable movement during combat. Reassigning crouch to the right thumbstick will allow you to easily crouch while in combat and B/Circle can be your reload. Of course, with full button map customization, you can spend all day tweaking things but these recommendations should make the most immediate impact. I would also encourage players who tend to main a specific Lancer to remap abilities to fit your play style.

Best Starting Lancers in FragPunk

Currently, FragPunk offers 13 playable Lancers that all have a set of abilities ranging from unique weapons, movements, buffs, AOE damage, traps, and more. In a 5v5 match team comp is going to be a major factor but in FragPunk there are Shard Cards that instantly alter a match so the right combination can be lethal.

Shard Cards are the outlier separating FragPunk from similar-style games and make every match feel completely different. Shard Cards are true wild cards as each team is presented every round with a random draw of cards. These Shard Cards could have team, player, or even map implications and one of my favorite cards is low gravity where players suddenly jump higher and fall slower completely changing the game. For individual players, some cards can multiply abilities and even give you infinite ammo so teams need to expect the unexpected each round. Understanding how each of these cards works with your Lancer because each Lancer has a complimenting card and understanding how they impact each round can give your team a massive advantage.

Unfortunately at the start, you will not have all the Lancers unlocked but through daily logins, you will quickly receive a Lancer Statue which is used to unlock them. Let’s break down the starting Lancers you will be choosing from and their different play styles so you can feel confident picking the best Lancer for you.

• Kismet - If you are the type who wants all the information this is the Lancer for you. Excelling in recon and getting the jump on unexpecting enemies by utilizing the scan ability or going full incognito with her invisibility is one of the few strategies with Kismet. Another added benefit is Kismet’s abilities make it easy to learn your way around maps and spend time invisible setting up the perfect ambush for unsuspecting Lancers.
• Hollowpoint - As the name suggests this Lancer is all about long range, a powerful sniper is part of their kit, and coupled with impairment and trap abilities you can be the perfect shot caller for your squad. Precision will be key when using this Lancer but overall play may feel slower due to the long-range combat. Great for players looking to get a feel for the game without sweaty firefights.
• Jaguar - Close-quarter combat and aggression are what Jaguar is all about, with trap, detection, and slow abilities hunting down enemies across the map is a breeze. Live Wire is a very strong ability that allows Jaguar to shut down access to certain parts of a map for enemies and if it is disabled you will be able to track that individual down for an easy kill. The recon and hunting abilities along with the close-quarter emphasis make this a great starting Lancer for those who are more battle-hungry.
